ABOUT ME:

FAVE HORROR FILMS: this is an ongoing list of my favorite horror movies ever in no particular order, if any of you blackhearted fiends are interested...
1. “Suspiria” (a stylish, creepy classic from Dario Argento. great music by Goblin.)
2. “Opera” (a striking, over-the-top giallo.)
3. “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” (a raw, disturbing film. Michael Rooker gives a
career gerformance.)
4. “Schramm” (grotesquely artful portrait of a ficticious serial killer from director Jorg
Buttgereit, who brought us "NekRomantik".)
5. “Bride of Frankenstein” (the ultimate camp classic. hilarious and intelligent.)
6. “Re-Animator” (knockout thriller and gore-comedy. my favorite bent adaptation of
Lovecraft.)
7. “Halloween” (seminal suburban slasher terror.)
8. “In the Mouth of Madness” (my favorite straight interpretation of Lovecraft. fantastic.)
9. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974 version. a gritty, genuinely disturbing film.
brilliantly executed.)
10.”Night of the Living Dead” (1968 version. the modern horror film begins here. god
bless you George Romero.)
11. “Dawn of the Dead” (1978 version. dead-on sequel. intelligence, shocks and laughs
galore.)
12. “Dawn of the Dead” (2004 version. funny, action-packed and scary as hell. EXCELLENT reimagining of Romero's film.)
13. “Rosemary’s Baby” (low-key horror at its very finest.)
14. “The Tenant” (Polanski is at the top of his form with this film. either a tale of haunting and posession or of mental collapse. either way, it’s great.)
15. “The Exorcist” (a gripping phenomenon of a film.)
16. “Session 9” (suspenseful and disturbing psychological thriller. i had trouble sleeping afterwards.)
17. “The Omen” (a masterpiece with amazing writing and an Oscar-winning score by Jerry Goldsmith.)
18. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2” (one of the best horror sequels of all time. funny,
sick and twisted. you gotta love Chop Top.)
19. “The Gates of Hell” (a weird, creepy gorefest with unconventional zombies. They make someone literally PUKE THEIR GUTS OUT WITH FEAR. my new favorite Lucio Fulci film, followed very closely by "The Beyond".)
20. “Zombie ’90: Extreme Pestilence” (rare uncut english dubbed version is simply so
hilariously bad it's good. my favorite line: "I'm gonna run this muhfucka's dick over!")
21. “The Convent” (nuns, guns, and gasoline. one of the best horror comedies in years,
done ‘80’s style, muthakfuckas!)
22. “Dead Alive” (Peter Jackson’s splatter comedy masterpiece. with 3,000 gallons of blood shed onscreen, this is the goriest zombie (or ANY) film of all time. a hilarious must-see. be sure you don't get the shitty r-rated Blockbuster Video version.)
23. “Stagefright” (one of the most satisfying slasher films ever, from Michele Soavi. stylish and colorful with lots of over-the-top violence.)
24. “Audition” (Takashi Miike crafted this seemingly innocent film which takes a bizarre left turn halfway through and never lets up. a thing of twisted beauty.)
25. “Cemetery Man” (an arty, intriguing film about love, pain, death, and, of course, zombies.)
26. “Evil Dead 2” (just plain GROOVY.)
27. “Videodrome” (David Cronenberg’s gooey sci-fi/horror opus. incredibly bizarre. you get to see a biomechanical vagina form in James Woods' stomach!)
28. "The Untold Story" (truly disturbing, but also very entertaining and blackly funny. a Chinese film about a vicious serial killer who has a very creative way of disposing of his victims.)
29. "Evil Dead Trap" (extremely stylish and bizarre Japanese killer thriller.)
30. "Uzumaki" (a creepy, esoteric horror fantasy about vortexes. visually stunning.)
31. "Hellraiser" (Clive Barker's sadomasochistic masterpiece.)
32. "Psycho" (my favorite Hitchcock film. years ahead of its time.)
33. "The Shining" (Stanley Kubrick's masterful interpretation of Stephen King's (in my opinion) crappy novel. some of the creepiest scenes in cinematic history.)
34. "28 Days Later" (Danny Boyle's brilliant resurrection of the zombie film. scary...)
35. "Battle Royale" (emotionally-charged roller-coaster ride, featuring the venerable "Beat" Takeshi. ninth graders are forced to kill each other through various means. amazing to behold.)
36. "Ju-on: The Curse 1 and 2" (eerie and sinister as fuck. a Japanese ghost story about a cursed house.)
37. "The Legend of Hell House" (atmospheric and scary British film about a paranormal investigation that goes horribly awry.)
38. "Terror Firmer" (Lloyd Kaufman's genre-bending Troma film about a serial killer stalking an independent movie set. nasty, gross, offensive, and superbly hilarious.)
39. "Brain Damage" (funny, bizarre and effective allegory about addiction from Frank Henenlotter.)
40. "Eraserhead" (David Lynch's absurdist nightmare on film. a surreal work of art.)
41. "The Howling" (outrageous werewolf movie from Joe Dante.)
42. "The Return of the Living Dead" (hilarious splatter shocker. great punk soundtrack, writing and performances.)
43. "May" (thought-provoking, blackly comedic variation on the Frankenstein theme.)
44. "Saw" (imaginitive, unpredictable, and scary horror thriller.)
45. "Shaun of the Dead" (a romantic comedy... with zombies! huge laughs.)
46. "2LDK" (an outrageously violent black comedy from Japan about two roommates whose feud escalates into a battle to the death.)
47. "Versus" (a hysterical zombie/martial arts film. an onslaught of zombie action and gunplay. insanely fun.)
49. "The Reflecting Skin" (Philip Ridley's weird and macabre coming of age story. rather Lynchian, except far more ghoulish than the average David Lynch film.)
50. "Bazaar Bizarre" (a truly unique combination of musical, horror film and documentary about sick-fuck serial killer Bob Berdella. extremely strange.)
51. "Irreversible" (never mind that this is a drama. its brutal and unflinching point of view makes this film a must-see for fans of disturbing cinema. One of the most uncomfortable and unforgettable viewing experiences of my life).
52. "Wolf Creek" (throws most horror conventions out the window, and works marvelously. based on real-life serial murderer Ivan Milat, "The Backpacker Killer.")

is anyone still reading after all that?
